Sporobolus virginicus






Description: Erect to decumbent perennial to 38 cm tall with creeping rhizomes and stoloniferous. Firm closely crowed leaves (2-ranked) have conspicuously overlapping sheaths and short blades. Panicles 2-30 cm long and contracted. Fruit is free from the lemma and palea and will fall from the mature spikelet, resulting its common name. Bloons Summer-Fall.
Location: Only found along the Gulf Coast counties, rarely inland. Locally frequent in sandy soils along saltwater, usually forming dense stands. Found exclusively on sandy beaches, on sand dunes, and in saline habitats.
Soil Type: Saline soils.
