Plant Description: Trees up to 33 ft tall or taller, with brittle branches without spines. Leaves alternate, twice compound, up to 25 cm long; pinnae up to 25 pairs; leaflets about 1.5 mm wide. Flowers tiny, radial, white, in globose clusters up to 2 cm broad. Fruit are legumes reddish, papery, up to 15 cm long or longer.

Field Identification: Distinguished from the closely related popinac, L. leucocephala, by its narrow leaflets having little or no spaces between them.
Occurrence: Suter Park, Oso Bay Wetlands
Bloom Period: March-August
Plant Use: Used extensively as a shade tree in the Rio Grande Valley. Fairly uncommon in our area.
