Description: Aromatic perennial shrub to 5 m or higher with a columnar habit. Leaves bipinnate with leaflets 4-7 mm long Flower heads 2-3 cm wide, white to creamy, fragrant, and in clustersPapery legume pod, 5–12 cm (2–5 in) long, reddish‑brown, with shiny brown‑black seeds. Juvenile shrubs are spiny.
Field Identification: Deciduous, compound with many tiny, dusty‑green leaflets.
Plant Trivia:
Occurrence: Gulf Coast prairies, marshes, riparian zones, and wetlands of Texas and surrounding regions. Found on loamy soils mostly on sloping ground; known from west of Corpus Christi, south of Alice and south of Kingsville.
Bloom Period: May-Oct
Plant Use: Good for landscaping. Aromatic, Showy, Blooms ornamental, Understory tree, Fast growing. Wildlife use as nectar-bees, Nectar for butterflies and other insects.
