Leaves often clustered on short, knotty spurs of older twigs. Bark and twigs are gray and smooth. Flowers clustered along the branches, without sepals or petals. Male and female flowers on separate plants. Fruit about 8 mm long, black. plant tends to be supported by its branches lying on branches of other shrubs.
