Plant Description: Perennial with sprawling or ascending stems to 30 cm or longer. Leaves 1-2.5 cm long, mostly lanceolate or linear-lanceolate, alternate, petals united. Corolla 8-17 mm wide, white, pink, or light blue-violet, radial, funnel shaped.
Plant Trivia: “sericeus” from Latin means “silky”
Field Identification: Dense appressed hairs on flower make it appear silky.
Occurrence: Frequent in prairies and openings, usually on loamy soils.
Bloom Period: March-November
Plant Use: Seeds and leaves are eaten by wildlife.
