Plant Description: Annual with upright or prostrate stems 50 40 cm long. Leaves 2-10 cm long, entire to toothed or lobed, fleshy, alternate. Flowers in racemes, the petals white or lavender. Forms large mounds.
Plant Trivia:
Field Identification: Easily distinguished from other Cakile by its siliques with transverse partitions.
Occurrence: Common on Gulf side beaches of barrier island and on bay beaches.
Bloom Period: Spring-Summer
Plant Use: Host plant for the Great Southern White butterfly. Young leaves are used in salads and sandwiches.
