Plant Description: Perennial, shrub or subshrub to 75 cm high, forming colonies. Leaves 3-6 cm long, thick, succulent, and opposite, without petioles, oblanceolate. Flower heads mostly solitary, 2.5-3.5 cm wide. Disks yellow to brownish, rays yellow.

Field Identification: Dominant plant where it grows. Light green, thick leaves. You will feel the points of many sharp-pointed scales if you press gently against the disk parts of the flower head.
Occurrence: Common to brackish, saline areas, along bay beaches and salt marshes.
