Plant Description: Annual to 15 cm high with thickish, mostly ovate-elliptic leaves, 0.7-2 cm long, opposite, simple, without petioles, not clasping. Flowers in open cymes, the corolla lobes 5-10 mm long, white to pink or rose.

Occurrence: Common in sandy depressions and flats of barrier islands. Also scattered along mainland beaches, likely hybridizing with S. campestris.
