Plant Description: Short lived shrub to 120 cm high or higher. Leaves pinnate, alternate with leaflets 1.2-2.5 cm long. Flower is racemes, the upper petal 12-16 mm long, orange-yellow. Fruit is a 4-winged legume.

Field Identification: Mostly found near water. Pod has a deep cleft on each edge.
Occurrence: Common in swales, depressions, ditches, coastal prairies and marshes and other moist low grounds.
