Plant Description: Annual to 1 m or higher, much like A. mexicana but with white to lavender or purple petals 3-4 cm long, radial. Yellow sap. Leaves alternate, deeply pinnately lobed, the lobes sharp-pointed. Fruit are prickly capsules up to 5 cm tall.

Field Identification: Beautiful open flowers, papery; plant leaves with vicious pointed tips
Occurrence: Locally abundant in sandy prairies and other open grounds, the lavender purple form known mostly from Kleberg and Jim Wells counties and points further west.
