Plant Description: Deciduous vie or ow shrub with 3-foliate leaves, alternate. Leaflets ovate, variously toothed, lobed, or entire. Flowers in loose panicles the petals about 3 mm long, greenish yellow, axillary inflorescences. Fruits creamy or whiteish.

Plant Trivia: All parts of the plant are poisonous on contact. Leaflets turn usually turn red or white during Fall.

Field Identification:

Occurrence: Common in river and creek bottoms, occasional in mottes or coastal oak woods.

Bloom Period: April-May but can be year-round.
