Plant Description: Perennial up to 20 inches tall. Leaves alternate, blades obovate to lanceolate up to 2 inches log; margin toothed and lobed. Flowers radial, petals 4, pink (rarely white), up to 1 3/8 inches long, stigmas 4, ovaries inferior. Fruit care capsules clubshped shaped up to 3/8 inch long on a stalk of about equal length.

Plant Trivia: Spanish means “wild poppy.”

Field Identification: Showy low growing flower, reclining plants. Flower of morning, shaded areas and highly overcast days.

Occurrence: Common throughout Texas

Bloom Period: Spring – Summer

Plant Use: Decorative ground cover.
