Anagallis arvensis

Plant Description: Annual to 15 cm or higher with erect to spreading stems. Leaves ovate or oval, mostly 1-2 cm long, opposite. Flowers solitary on slender pedicels, the corolla about 1 cm wide, salmon-orange or blue. In our area, blue is most common color.

Plant Trivia: Native to Europe. Flower color depends on soil pH.
Occurrence: Frequent on prairies, fields, disturbed areas, and along roadsides.

Key to the Genus Anagallis: Herbs with simple leaves and perfect 5-merrous flowers. Petals united, with stamens as many as petals. Anagallis has solitary flowers.
