Plant Description: Perennial to 1 m or higher with ovate or triangular leaves 2-8 cm long, alternate. Flowers racemose, the tepals 2-3 mm long, white to pink or rose. inflorescence terminal or axillary. Fruits red.
Plant Trivia: Highly variable in flower color and fruit color. This is one of the few shade tolerant native plants.

Occurrence: Common in brushy pastures and yards, motts, bottom woods, usually in partial shade.
