Plant Description: Annual, 10-50 cm high, with usually upright stems and oblanceolate to lanceolate or ovate leaves 1-7 cm long, hairy, opposite at base; alternat higher. Flowers in cluster, the corolla 1.5-2.5 cm wide, purple with dark red eye-star.

Plant Trivia: Named in honor of Thomas Drummond, who made important contributions to the knowledge of Texas flora. The taxonomy of this genus has been somewhat confused by sowing of seeds along Texas highways. This practice sometimes introduces variations that would not normally exist in a given area.

Occurrence: Local abundant in sandy prairies and openings

Bloom Period: February-June

Plant Use: Showy and used in gardens.
