Plant Description: Deciduous woody vine with 2- to 3-pinnate leaves, alternate. Leaflets ovate, 1.2-5 cm long. Flowers in clusters opposite the leaves, the petals 2 mm long, green. Fruits 10 mm wide, black.

Plant Trivia: Greek words “ampolos” (vine) and “opsis” (likeness) referring to the vine’s habit of growing up onto trees.

Field Identification:

Occurrence: Frequent on damp soils along creeks and rivers, occasional in coastal oak woods.
