Plant Description: Bears the color and basic shape of all coreopsis’. Annual to 40 cm tall with mostly pinnately compound leaves; opposite or basal on lower part of stem; leaves up to 10 cm long , simple leaf, spatulate; leaf margin entire, lobed, Flower heads 3-5 cm wide and solitary, terminal & perfect. Disk yellow or light brown; rays; yellow with an orange zone at base and a variable pattern of brownish red line and dots concentric around face of flower petals appearing as a dashed ring. Glabrous phyllaries. pappus of 2 small scales.
Plant Trivia: Lower water use (drought tolerant); deer resistant. prefers full sun
Field Identification: Yellow aster with reddish interior ring around petals; petals are usually 3-4 fingered.
Occurrence: Frequent on sandy loam in prairies and openings. Attractive and showy. Primarily Texas Coastal Plain, Rio Grande Plai and Louisiana.
Bloom Period: Feb- May
