Description: Perennial, cespitose or rhizomatous. Culmsto 2 m long. Sheaths rounded or keeled. Ligules 0.5-2 mm long. Awns 2.5-17 mm long. Pedicellate spikelets staminate or sterile, unawned or awned, awned to 4 m long.
Location: Common throughout Texas of open woodlands, grasslands, and prairies.
Soil Type: All soils
Trivia: One of most recognizable grasses from the road in Texas. During Fall grass reveals a silver to white wave of inflorescences waving in the wind.
Economic, Environmental Importance: Poor for wildlife and good for livestock. Good forage early in the season
