Description: Perennial to 1 m high with linear or lanceolate leaves 1-8 cm long. Erect or sprawling herb. Leaves alternate, margins toothed. Flowers radial, solitary or sometimes clustered, the petals 1.2-2 cm long, yellow-orange.
Field Identification: Bushy appearance. Produces erect, hairy stems with lance-shaped to elliptic leaves. Solitary flowers grow in leaf axils. Yellow flower petals have triangular lobes.The linear t lanceolate leaves with toothed margins and the relative size of the flowers are the noticeable characteristics of this plant. Flowers open late in the afternoon.
Plant Trivia:
Occurrence: Native perennial herb found in Texas and parts of Mexico. Frequent on deeper sands in prairie and openings.
