Description: Perennial to 1 m high with linear or lanceolate leaves 1-8 cm long. Erect or sprawling herb. Leaves alternate, margins toothed. Flowers radial, solitary or sometimes clustered, the petals 1.2-2 cm long, yellow-orange.
Field Identification: Bushy appearance. Produces erect, hairy stems with lance-shaped to elliptic leaves. Solitary flowers grow in leaf axils. Yellow flower petals have triangular lobes.The linear to lanceolate leaves with toothed margins and the relative size of the flowers are the noticeable characteristics of this plant. Flowers open late in the afternoon.
Plant Trivia:
Occurrence: Native perennial herb found in Texas and parts of Mexico. Frequent on deeper sands in prairie and openings.
