Plant Description: Annual-biennial to 50 cm high with ovate leaves 2-7 cm long. Plant is erect. Leaves opposite, ovate to heart shaped, up to 3 1/8 inches long, leaf margins toothed. Flowers in often leafy spikelike racemes, bilateral about 3/8 inches long. Corolla 9-12 mm long, lavender or purple-rose.
Plant Trivia: Named in honor of Thomas Drummond, and immigrant from Scotland who contributed much to the knowledge of Texas flower, especially from Central Texas.
Field Identification: The corolla extends well beyond the calyx, easily distinguishing it from S. crenata. One of the earliest blooming plants in late Winter, but disappears quickly as weather gets hot.
Occurrence: Frequenton various soils in pastures and woods, often in partial shade.
