Plant Description: Perennial vine with thick tailing or slightly twining stems to 10 m or longer, rooting at the nodes. Leaves 6-10 cm long, about as broad, thick and leathery. Corolla 5-6 cm long, rose-purple, tubular. Our subspecies is brasiliensis.
Field Identification: Common long vine on beach, foredunes and dunes. Leaves folded, Roots at nodes.
Plant Trivia: This is an important plant of the dune line on barrier islands contributing as dune stabilization, and retention of sand due to water and wind effects on the dune front.
Occurrence: Gulf Beaches
