Plant Description: Perennial with woody base to 120 cm high with roughish leaves 4-15 cm long. Heads in corymbs, 1-1.8 cm wide. Disks and rays white. Leaves alternate, petioles clasping the stems; blades ovate or triangular, up to 5 .2 inches, margins toothed.
Plant Trivia: Hard frost causes a white foamy substance to emerge from the sems; hence the common name. Excellent Butterfly nectar plant.
Field Identification: Has fluted (or winged) stems.
Occurrence: Common on various soils in pastures and woods.
Bloom Period: September-November
