Plant Description: Perennial with spreading or ascending stems to 30 cm or longer. Leaves, alternate, 1-2.5 cm long, mostly lanceolate or linear-lanceolate. Leaves have a silky appearance with their dense, appressed hairs. Corolla 8-17 mm wide, white, pink, or light blue-violet.

Plant Trivia: Species epithet is derived from a Latin word for “silky.”

Field Identification:

Occurrence: Frequent on prairies and openings, usually on loamy or sandy soils.

Bloom Period: March -November

Plant Use: Seeds eaten by wildlife.
