Plant Description: Perennial to 75 cm high with pinnately divide leaves 4-20 cm long. Heads loosely clustered, 3.5-4.5 cm wide. Disks and rays yellow. Leaves alternate, stems leaves oblong, up to 12 inches long, margins deeply lobed. Achenes flattened, with pappus of a few scales that fall away.
Plant Trivia: Genus is named for the German-born Georg Engelmann, an American physician and botanist.
Field Identification: Tips of rays curled back under disc plane.
Occurrence: Frequent on well drained sands or caliche in prairies, openings, and waste places.
Bloom Period: Spring-Fall
Plant Use: Showy, used as garden ornamental. Common in wildflower seed mixes
