Plant Description: Annual with spreading or prostrate stems to 35 cm long. Leaves 3-15 cm long. Seeds solitary, 1.5-1.8 cm wide, ligulate, the rays yellow with purple tips sometimes. One usually finds these in dense colonies of several to many square feet.
Field Identification: This is a short stemmy aster with very long flower pedicles. Yellow disk and ray flowers about 1.5 m in diameter.
Plant Trivia: Native of Mediterranean Europe.
Occurrence: Locally abundant on sand or shell. Known from around Corpus Christi, west of Portland, east of Calallen, Rockport.
Bloom Period: March – June
