Heterotheca subxillaris

Plant Description: Perennial to 85 cm high with roughish leaves 1-9 cm long. Flower heads 1.5-3 cm wide, mostly in loose corymbs. Disk and ray flowers yellow. Leaves are oval to lance-shaped, with toothed margins and have a strong camphor-like scent when crushed. Leaves clasp the stem at the base. Stems hairy and sticky to the touch.
Field Identification: Leaf structure similar to that of Camphor Daisy but leaves much smaller. Ray flower petals more spread out, and entire flower has a smaller diameter. Calyxs cylindrical with overlapping sepals
Plant Trivia:
Occurrence: Common on deep sands along the coast, on sandy soils in prairies, open areas, fallow fields, and disturbed sites.
