Plant Description: Perennial vine with twining stems to about 10 cm long. Leaves trifoliate, with leaflets 2.5-5 cm long, alternate. Flowers peduncled, the upper petal 2-3 cm long, lavender or light violet-blue, strongly bilateral, pea-shaped.
Field Identification: Narrow leaved that are not overbearing with large purple pea flower bearing a pair of white rectangular bars in the center of the flower. Flower with distinct bee lines.
Plant Trivia:
Occurrence: Common on sandy, oak woods along the coast; occasionally found in oak mottes inland.
Bloom Period: Mar-Nov
Plant Use: Nectar source; nice landscape vine.
