Plant Description: Annual to 60 cm high with roughish leaves 2 – 10 cm long, alternate; Heads solitary, 3-5 cm wide. Disk is ovoid-conic, purplish brown. Rays are orange-yellow, usually with a reddish-brown spot at base.
Plant Trivia: Named for Olof Rudbeck, founder of Uppsala Botanic Garden in Sweden.
Field Identification: attractive and clustered.
Occurrence: Common on coastal sands and woodland oaks. Locally abundant.
