Plant Description: Perennial with usually reclining or prostrate stems to 25 cm long. Leaves linear or oblong, 6-30 cm long, alternate, margins toothed apically. Flowers in compact clusters, radial, with narrow hairy bracts, the petals 8-12 mm long, salmon-rose or light red.

Field Identification: flower stalks grow on to the petioles of the adjacent leaves or bracts. Found primarily in sandy soils.
Occurrence: Frequent on sand or clayey loams in prairies, openings, and waste places.
Bloom Period: March-December
