Plant Description: This plant is a rhizomatous perennial that grows to 1 meter high with lanceolate leaves 3-8 centimeters long; flowers develop in spike-like racemes; the 1-liped corolla measures 1.2-2 centimeters long with pale pink or lavender with purple spots.
Plant Trivia: The common name germander was originally altered from a Greek name for ground oak, chamaidrys.
Field Identification: Erect plant with spike inflorescence bearing individual flowers from bottom to top. Dark green, triangular leaves. Extracting the plant from the ground reveals long thin rhizomes.
Occurrence: Frequent on various soils in pastures and woods, around swales and lakes, or along streams.
Bloom Period: March-November
